Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain. We have a zero-tolerance approach to any form of slavery, and we are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships.

This statement is made on behalf of Cartesian Ltd in line with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (“MSA”), and references to “we”, “us”, “our”, or the “Company” are to Cartesian Ltd.

Cartesian provides consulting services and software products to the global communications, media and technology industries.  It has two regional operating units, North America (NA) and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).  In EMEA there are 6 customer facing business units each with a head of department:

  • Strategy consulting
  • Management consulting
  • Video Technology
  • Content Security
  • Wi-Fi
  • Implementation Services
  • Managed Solutions

These business units are supported by administrative functions and also by a Technology and Innovation (T&I) team that provide technical support, primarily to the Managed Solutions group but also to the other business units as needed. All department directors for the above functions report in to the CEO for Cartesian Ltd and Cartesian Inc.

Cartesian Ltd is a EMEA entity whose immediate US parent company is Cartesian Inc. Both Cartesian Ltd and Cartesian Inc are owned by the private equity investor Blackstreet Holdings.

Cartesian Ltd’s core mission is to provide our clients with industry-leading expertise and unparalleled dedication to service in a manner consistent with the highest ethical business practices.

We do not use or accept forced, bonded or involuntary prison labour or child labour. We do not demand deposits or hold onto our workers’ identity papers, or work with suppliers that do. We only work with people who choose to work freely. We respect the right to equal opportunity and freedom of association. Our statement of business practices and values are encapsulated in the Cartesian Code of Conduct.

This year we have:

  • Carried out a risk assessment of our Tier 1 supply chain and have reached out to all medium to high risk suppliers to ensure they commit to complying with the Modern Slavery Act (2015)
  • Amended the wording in our employee code of conduct to enable awareness of Modern Slavery throughout our UK business
  • We have instigated an internal reporting procedure to enable employees to report and suspected violations of Cartesian’s Anti-Slavery Policy.

The Company CEO Jim Serafin has taken responsibility for the contents of this statement and we endeavour to improve our due diligence year on year.
