Howard Watson — Managing Director

Howard Watson
Howard Watson brings extensive communications and media industry expertise to TMNG Global. He possesses a broad knowledge of operational leadership, technology and IT, fortified by his area of specialty, the strategic development and delivery of business transformation and post-merger integration.
Prior to joining TMNG’s UK-based office to oversee Cartesian and TMNG EMEA operations, Howard led Virgin Media’s technology initiatives as the Chief of Transformation and Technology. Under his leadership, the technology division of Virgin Media saw revolutionary change as Howard introduced new key and strategic positions, including CTIO and Executive Director of Change, and implemented new strategies to earn the banner “most cost efficient division”. Additionally, as the Chief Technology and Information Officer of Telewest PLC, a UK based cable company, Howard made significant contributions to the establishment of Telewest as one of the best performing cable operators according to leading industry analysts.
His varied background ranges from building-out technology and IT divisions and overseeing operations, to innovating and delivering transformational products in the UK cable industry including telephony, digital TV, Video on Demand, High Definition TV, and ultra high speed broadband.
Howard is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and earned his BSc with first class honours from the Electrical and Electronic School of Engineering at Aston University in Birmingham, UK.

William Hill — Director, Strategic Development

Bill Hill
Bill is one of the co-founders of Cartesian. With over fifteen years in the telecommunications and utilities services industries and a background in networks and technology, Bill has held leadership positions in technology, operations, and sales. Prior to Cartesian, he gained an in-depth understanding of customers’ business and technical requirements working at companies such as British Gas, London Underground, British Telecom, and Videotron.

For the last nine years, Bill has played a major role in building the Consulting group. More recently, he has been instrumental in creating a strong market presence and developing new business contacts and revenue streams for Cartesian. With his technical background, commercial awareness, and industry knowledge, he is able to provide the key strategic leadership to build new business and focus on end-customer satisfaction. In addition to his primary focus on strategic accounts, Bill provides guidance to the Consulting group to assist in project steering for Cartesian’s major customers.

Jim Baker — Chief Technical Officer

Jim Baker
Jim is one of the co-founders of Cartesian. He is an experienced consultant and technical architect with almost 15 years experience in the telecommunications industry, having started work developing interconnect systems in the early 90’s. He has a detailed technical knowledge of Telco architectures, IP technology, and ISP services, as well as being a veteran of many provisioning, mediation, and rating implementations.

With this background, Jim is ideally suited to steer the product engineering team in the development and implementation of the Ascertain products. He strongly believes that for Ascertain to maintain its market-leading position, and to meet revenue assurance needs in the future, constant innovation and investment is required. Jim also brings his experience and understanding of complex implementations to the delivery team, ensuring a successful track record of product deployments and – most importantly – satisfied customers.

Dermod Ranaghan — Finance Director

Dermod Ranaghan
Dermod, a qualified accountant, joined Cartesian in October 2000. Prior to that he had spent 6 years with a publishing house, where he was responsible for management information systems (MIS), IT systems and the management accounts. He was appointed as Finance Director of Cartesian in February 2004. Dermod has used his strength in MIS to enhance Cartesian’s project and billing systems to bring high-standards of accounting and reporting to the Cartesian team and its customers.

Following Cartesian’s belief in excellent customer service and strong billing control, Dermod is an important team member in ensuring the commercial relationship with clients, including contracts and invoicing, is managed efficiently and accurately.

Kazan Glenn — Director, Product Development

Kazan Glenn
Kazan joined Cartesian in 1997. Prior to this he worked at University College London in a research capacity.
During his time at Cartesian Kazan has worked on many challenging consultancy engagements and over more recent years has provided leadership of Cartesian’s product development group. He has been instrumental in both the design and development of the Ascertain product suite, taking it from inception to the mature product base that it is today. This task has proven Kazan’s capacity to understand complex technical issues and combine these with business understanding to provide valuable solutions to customer’s often complex requirements. His pragmatic leadership has enabled the consistent timely delivery of complex software solutions, usually under aggressive time scales.
Kazan brings to his role of Director of Product Development a deep understanding of a broad range of technical areas, proven leadership capabilities and a pragmatic approach to project delivery.

Richard Miguda — Director, Consultancy

Richard Miguda
Richard joined Cartesian in July 1999 from a supplier of software to the telecoms and finance sectors. With over 10 years experience in telecom and software delivery he is a highly respected professional with a deep understanding of the issues experienced by operators upgrading and consolidating their back office systems in response to business change.
Since joining Cartesian, Richard has provided leadership in high profile and complex projects throughout the book-to-bill chain, as well as service assurance. His experience has included retail and interconnect systems for triple play, European fixed line, VoIP and mobile operators, as well as leading roles as part of delivery projects for global vendors. His wide experience across rating, billing, OSS and associated business functions ensures that Richard is able to advise customers on the wide range of interdependent issues that arise on complex projects.
Richard brings to his role as a Director of Consultancy significant insight on the end-to-end risk management strategies employed by the most successful projects - essential knowledge for fulfilling his responsibility to lead and support Cartesian’s teams, customers, and customers’ teams.

Roger Peden — Director, Consultancy

Roger Peden
Roger has 14 years experience in IT and the telecommunications industry. Having spent 8 years working for a LogicaCMG and 2 years working for a UK mobile operator, Roger joined Cartesian in 2004. His experience of implementing and supporting billing and provisioning systems for mobile, fixed line and satellite operators’ in European, North and South American and Pacific Rim markets has provided a strong understanding of operators needs and challenges globally.
On joining Cartesian, as Head of Product Delivery, Roger used his experience to develop Cartesian’s system integration processes and procedures to ensure that delivery of the Ascertain product suite to new customers was executed efficiently and high standards of quality and customer satisfaction were maintained. He was instrumental in defining and building Cartesian’s Customer Technical Services group, which combines Ascertain support, development and delivery functions to ensure that Ascertain customers receive the highest standard of post-implementation support possible.
As Director of Consultancy, Roger is well placed to capitalise on his depth of experience to take responsibility for the ongoing development and support of the ever-increasing Ascertain customer base, not only managing support activities but steering and leading enhancement and development projects for these customers.

Peter Wells — Director, Consultancy

Peter Wells
Peter joined a telecommunications operator from university and has since spent over 15 years in the industry working for in both operational and IT roles before moving to a global systems vendor and then joining Cartesian/TMNG in 2000. Peter has wide industry experience covering both fixed and mobile sectors and across a wide range of service offerings. His work with Cartesian/TMNG has encompassed leadership roles in systems integration projects that have implemented new billing, revenue assurance, provisioning and eCare solutions; and that have launched new services and new network models.
In each of these roles Peter has bought his experience to bear to quickly grasp the problem and brings a pragmatic approach to delivery focussed on delivering the right solution for the business needs. Peter strongly believes that simple solutions can often be found to complex problems and that strong management is needed to derisk projects and provide confidence that business benefits will be delivered on schedule.

Wendy Wollard — Director, Consultancy

Wendy Wollard
Wendy began her 10 year career in telecommunications as a product manager at US West (now Qwest), the incumbent carrier covering the Rocky Mountain region in the U.S. Wendy then moved to a start-up which provided revenue assurance solutions for the European market. She led the implementation of a revenue assurance solution that resulted in the automated identification and correction of revenue leakage for a European fixed line PTT. Following on from that success, she managed interconnect billing system deliveries at British Telecom for its Wholesale and Global Services lines of business and has provided business process re-engineering consultancy based on eTOM principles to Telecom Egypt.
Wendy joined Cartesian as a manager in the consulting group in October 2006. Since then Wendy has become a key contact for several of Cartesian’s major customers, ensuring that all their projects and requirements are successfully delivered. Due to her experience across revenue assurance and billing, complemented by her pragmatic and collaborative approach with customers, Wendy is well positioned to lead the wide array of consultancy engagements in which Cartesian specialises.

Jonathan Miller — Director of Marketing

Jonathan Miller
Jonathan joined Cartesian in 2001, quickly progressing to Senior Consultant then Principal. His ten years experience in various IT management and consulting roles in the telecommunications industry, coupled with his guest lectureship at Nottingham Trent University, make him ideally placed to lead the continuing expansion of Cartesian’s training offering through the Cartesian Academy.

For a number of years Jonathan has specialised in high-level requirements capture, project initiation and implementation of Revenue Assurance Controls. Jonathan has experience drawn from mobile, fixed, cable telephone and digital cable television operators across Europe and the Middle East. He has designed and delivered a number of Revenue Assurance Training courses both within consultancy engagements, and as standalone external courses. He contributes to the UK’s Revenue Assurance Group, whose members include most UK-based telco Revenue Assurance Managers.
